CANDYLAND RESKIN

This project was about reskinning a board game. As the original Candyland game had different houses and characters, my group decided that a Halloween-themed board would be fitting for this reskin. Furthermore, as this game is a kid's game, we wanted to keep the drawings kid-friendly, fun, and colorful, and ensured that each character wasn't too scary. These characters, houses, logos, and game boards were all designed in Illustrator. The game box was handcrafted using recycled cardboard boxes.

MARIOKART THE BOARD GAME

Since every member of my group was familiar with Mario Kart, we decided to create a Mario Kart board game. We adapted elements like the item boxes, power-ups, and characters from the digital game into our board game. We used illustrator and photoshop to create the board, cards, rulebooks, and boxes. The game pieces were 3D printed and painted by hand.

We came up with our own game mechanics to ensure that the board game mimics the digital game as closely as possible. We also play-tested the game several times to make sure that the rules are fair and there aren't any loopholes.

MARIOKART THE BOARD GAME (SHELL CUP)

This is the expansion pack of the Mario Kart board game. We decided to change the aesthetics of the game box and its contents to create a more cohesive look. We've also included more game pieces like the banana peels, and 3D printed spinner and paths to create a more engaging experience.

WEDDING READY

As most video games are catered toward males, our group decided to create a more "girly" game. We wanted this game to be engaging and challenging for kids. We decided on this Wedding themed game as we were inspired by one of my team member's sisters who just got married. All 3 of us liked the idea of a game with multiple levels, so we created a game with multiple short tasks with a time limit. This game may seem simple in the beginning, but it requires a lot of trial and error before completing the whole game.

TIC TAC TOE PONG

As most people know how to play Tic Tac Toe, we decided to create a more interactive and engaging version of it. To make this game even more challenging, players could "steal" other players' spaces. Alyssa designed and made the physical game by connecting the 9 cups and "missed" hole to 2 Makey Makey boards. I coded the game in p5.js and ensured that each cup corresponded to the right space on the screen, and allocated the score to the players. Tessa designed the scoreboard with neon colors to mimic games that are usually found at arcades.

MAID'S TALE

The main character (the mermaid) is helping to clean up the ocean. Whenever she comes across a sea creature ("enemy") with trash on them, she would battle them to help remove the trash.

Maid's Tale was intended to be a 2D side scroller RPG turn-based game. Despite the challenges we faced while creating the game, we were able to create all the game assets and ensured that they meshed well together. We chose a pastel color palette to create a more kid-friendly and girly aesthetic.
